Make a Mala Workshop
Date: Thursday & Friday, July 25-26
Workshop & Materials Fees: $100
Start this workshop by setting an intention or purpose of your mala beads. After a quiet moment, students will transition into carrying their intention into the mala by playing with color, stone type & composition of their piece. Next, with the guidance of local jewelry designer, Shannon Parker, of Wisdom River Designs, students will begin to string the 108 mala beads (or 81, for a ¾ length) by using the ancient technique of silk cord knotting. At this time, students will enjoy this meditative beading technique for the bulk of the first day of the workshop. This technique takes patience & practice. Bring a blanket & if students are willing, we can take the practice (just steps out the door) to the town Green to listen to the weekly summer music series. After day one, students will be asked to take their mala-in-progress home & finish it for the next class session. On day two, students will learn how to close off their necklace, add an accent bead (or not) as well as how to create a handmade tassel. The course will end with students attaching the tassel and/or charm to complete your design. Mala beads, silk cord & other materials are provided, but feel free to bring some of your own beads or charms to incorporate into your design. We would love for you to join Shannon & Emily for this two night event of intention setting & jewelry creation, in this 15+ evening workshop.
